HBX Challende January 2008 From a child's point of view
They
don't belong to me, I'll just use them for the sake of this story.
I
wrote this in a hurry, hope you guys like it:)
This is set in
season ten, after the four percent solution. Mac and Harm are a
couple.
From a child's point of view
“Harm, I
don't want to talk about it. Just back off.” Mac was angry. She
knew Harm wanted to talk, but he had to understand that she was not
ready for this conversation at all. At least not in the
office.
“Let's just talk ab...” He tried to argue
with her.
“No, Harm! No!” Mac took a deep breath.
“Not now, I just can't. Aren't you late for court?” She
sat down and focused on the file on her desk. Harm turned around, and
went out the door.
On his way out he saw A.J Roberts standing
outside Mac's office door.
“Hey buddy, what are you up
too?” Harm held his hand up in front of his godson, so he could
do a high five.”
“I'm on my way to see aunty Mac.”
A.J said, and looked thoughtful. “Are you having an argument
with aunty Mac?”
“Just a little one buddy. Maybe
you can talk some sense in to her.” Harm looked back in to
Mac's office, where she were busy working. “I have to go, I
have court. I'll see you later buddy.”
“See ya,
uncle Harm.” A.J said before he walked in to his aunt. He stood
by her desk for a while, waiting for his aunt to notice him. She
looked busy, and he was pretty sure she was angry too. She had the
same face as his mother got whenever A.J picked on his little
brother. He usually got sent to his room, and it was best not to be a
troublemaker for a while.
“Are you mad aunty Mac?”
The little boy decided to find out why his aunty looked angry.
Mac
looked up surprised. “Hey little man, you startled me.”
Mac had been lost in thoughts since Harm decided to ambush her.
“I'm
not angry.” She said.
“But you have the same face
mom gets when I'm in trouble.” The boy said.
“Well,
you are not in trouble honey. I'm just a little annoyed, maybe.”
Mac smiled at her godson. He was growing up so fast, something that
only reminded Mac on the five year old baby deal, that she had no
hope on fulfilling.
“Are you mad at uncle Harm?”
The little boy decided to get comfortable in one of the visitor
chairs.
“Just a little. Sometimes grown ups get a little
angry at each other.” Mac explained.
“Me and Bobby
had a fight last week because he took my toy car. Did uncle Harm
steal something away from you?” The boy was shocked that uncle
Harm would do something like that.
Mac had to laugh. “No
A.J uncle Harm didn't steal anything from me.” Mac rose from
behind her desk, and went to sit in the visitor chair beside A.J.
“Uncle Harm just wanted to talk about something that I didn't
want to talk about, so I got a little angry I guess.” She could
not believe she was having this conversation with a five year old
boy.
“Is uncle Harm your boyfriend? Because my
babysitter Jane fights with her boyfriend over the phone all the
time.” A.J was enthusiastic.
“Yes, he's my
boyfriend. Sometimes even though you love someone very much, you
fight with them.” Mac ran her hand over A.J's cheek.
“You're
not very good at relationships, are you?” A.J went to sit on
Mac's lap.
“Why would you say that?” Could it be
that even a five year old was able to notice her lack of relationship
skills?
“Because you don't like to let people in.”
A.J put his hand over her heart. “Mommy said that when you love
someone you let them in too your heart. I didn't do that with Jimmy,
because I didn't like him at first.” A.J looked regretful at
first, and then he smiled. “But now I like him I guess, and the
twins too”
Mac didn't say anything at first, she was
shocked that A.J had said that. 'Because you don't like to let people
in.' Off course Harm would feel that she was still pushing him away
when she did not tell him what she felt. He had been so open with her
about his feelings, and what he was thinking. She had not offered him
any kind of knowledge about what was going on in her mind.
“You
are absolutely right A.J.” She kissed his head, and put her
hand over his, where it was placed upon her heart. “You should
let the people you love in to your heart.”
“I love
you aunty Mac.” He put his arms around her shoulder, and hugged
her.
“I love you too sweetheart.” Mac hugged him
back.
Later Harm's apartment
Mac was busy cooking
dinner. She had decided to surprise Harm with a home made meal, and
she hoped he would be home soon since the chicken in curry sauce were
almost done. Mac sat down on one of Harm's bar chairs, and her
thoughts drifted towards the conversation with her godson.
It was
time that she let Harm inside her heart. He had been so patient with
her regards to her relationship with Clay, and the endometriosis. He
had been understanding and sweet. She did not understand why she had
a problem with letting him in to her heart. It was Harm, the one
person she trusted more than anything. Rationally, she knew that with
her history of bad relationships she was just scared of having a
broken heart. But how could she have a broken heart from
relationships that she never had put her heart in? She put her head
on the counter, and took a deep breath.
“You are such a mess
Mackenzie.” She said to herself. She was robbed from more
thoughts, because she heard Harm's key in the lock. She jumped off
the chair, and went to look at the chicken.
Harm opened the door,
and walked in. He was so handsome, Mac had too smile.
“Hey.”
Harm looked at her confused. “I thought you were angry at
me?”
She smiled, and walked towards him. “Well, I
thought I would make you dinner and apologize for earlier.”
Then her smile disapeard. “And I think we should talk. Or I
should talk, and you should listen.”
“Okay, I
guess I can do that.” He took a step towards her. “Hey.”
He kissed her.
“Hey.” Mac said when they ended the
kiss.
“So, what's for dinner?” He smiled at her,
and walked towards the kitchen area.
An hour later they had
eaten, and cleaned up. They took their coffee and sat down on the
couch.
Mac took a deep breath. “I'm sorry for earlier.
I've been running this relationship with the brakes on, and I'm sorry
for that too.” She took a break to gather her thoughts. “I
had an interesting conversation today with out godson, and he made me
realise that when you love someone you should let them in to your
heart. I haven't done that with you, and I'm sorry for that too.”
“It's okay Mac, you've been...” Harm began.
“No,
Harm. Don't make excuses for me. I just want to let you know that I
will do better from now.” She took his hand. “I love you
Harm, so much. I have never felt this way before, and I need you to
believe that. I know you think that the reason I have been distant
and holding back, is because of Clay. But that's not it Harm. That
was just another meaningless relationship, and it could never be
anything else than that. Both because of his job and because my heart
wasn't in it.” Mac realized she needed to breath, and took a
deep breath before she continued. “The reason I've been holding
back is because of the endometriosis. I know you don't consider it a
problem Harm. We'll be a family with kids, or without kids. I on the
other hand need to believe that you wont change your mind years from
now. That you wont regret never having kids of your own. So I've been
holding back, giving you the opportunity to change your mind.”
“I would never do that.” Harm was a little hurt
for the lack of confidence.
“I know that now.” She
put her forehead against his. “I know.”
He smiled
at her. “So about our argument earlier?”
“I
think you're right. Let's try to have a baby.” She smiled back
at him.
“It looks like our godson really did talk some
sense in to you.” Harm kissed her.
Mac pulled away.
“Excuse me?”
Harm laughed. “He asked me if
we were arguing, and said to him that maybe he could talk some sense
in to you. Looks like he did.”
“Yeah, looks like
it.” Mac laughed too. They were finally able to let go.
