The Visitor--March Challenge Response
A/N: Well, after the
discussion on the Harmyboard (and a strange visit by 3 muses that
granted me the ability of a short piece of shipper fluff) I decided
Mac really did visit Harm in prison…
My response to
the March Challenge, hope you all enjoy. (And if you don’t,
just humor me and say you did, lol)
The Visitor
“Up
and at ‘em, Rabb. You’ve got a visitor,” the guard
announced as he opened Harm’s dimly lit, dungy
cell.
Grumbling, he threw his long legs off of his bunk and
headed toward the open gate. He moped past several cells on his way
to the visitor’s center. The second he walked into the
visitor’s area, he spotted Mac. He should have known.
Sitting
down gruffly opposite her, he mumbled, “I thought I told you I
didn’t want any visitors.”
Trying to ignore his
snide mood, she playfully retaliated, “For once, admit you have
real feelings, I know deep down you are glad to see me.”
“I
told you not to come here, do you know how this could look like for
you?”
“What should I be afraid of, Harm?”
Rolling
his eyes, he motions his hands around the room, “Oh, I don’t
know, maybe that they might find a way to drag you into this mess
they so easily dragged me into.”
Still trying to cheer
him up, she teasingly adds, “Well, you know what they say, a
good friend will bail you out of jail at 2:00 in the morning, but a
real friend will be sitting next to you saying ‘damn, we
screwed up this time’.” At Harm’s little smirk, she
decided to continue, “If that is what it takes to prove to you
I care…”
“I don’t need proof, you
should know that.” Looking up to meet her eyes for the first
time since she arrived, he added, “Besides, we wouldn't be
sitting next to eachother, we couldn’t share a cell, the whole
different sex thing.”
“The sad part is, being
locked in a cell with you is probably the only time in your life you
wouldn’t be able to run away from me.”
The
seriousness in her voice rippled through his body as he caught her
piercing gaze. “That’s not true, Mac, but my life is…
complicated.”
“Caomplicated?” she scoffed.
“You have been arrested for murder, I think we have moved
beyond complicated.”
When she let out a small chuckle,
he decided to dish out a little banter of his own. “Hey, if
memory serves me correctly, you were arrested for murder once
yourself.”
“Touché,” she smiled. “So,
you see, your life is not too complicated for me.”
“Mac,
I mean it, look at my life,” he added solemnly. “Just do
yourself a favor, let go of me.”
She reached for his
hand as the guard in the background shouted, “Visitation time
is over.”
Staring into his eyes lovingly, she could only
utter one word, “Never.”
The End (but it
would have made a much better beginning!)
