Chapter 4

A chance to fix things

Ten weeks later

Harm was on the couch holding his eight weeks old son, Matthew Harmon Rabb. Harm was still in awe by the little creature in his arms; his son. Harm smiled and kissed little Matthews head, dreading the fact that he had to leave him in a few minutes. It would be Mac and Harm's first night out after Matthews birth; they were just going out for dinner, leaving their son with Harm's parents for a few hours.

Harm heard a knock on the apartment door; he stood to greet his parents, taking his son with him.

“Hey mom, Frank.” Harm bent down to give his mother a kiss on the cheek.

“Hey Harm, and hey little man.” Trish greeted her son and grandson, she took Matthew from Harm and sat down on the couch holding him.

Harm shook hands with Frank, before they joined Trish. “He has just eaten, so he'll probably sleep until we get back. If he wakes up and is hungry there's milk in the fridge.”

“I know Harm, I have taken care of children before.” Trish smiled reassuringly. “Are you nervous about leaving him?”

Harm tried to come off as calm and collected. “No.”

“He's lying, he has been a nervous wreck all day.” Mac stepped out from the bedroom. She smiled to Trish and Frank. “Hey, thank you so much for watching him.”

“No problem Mac, we want to spend as much time as we can with our grandson before we go back to San Diego. You two go out and have fun.” Trish directed the last part towards her son.

“Are we ready to go?” Mac grabbed Harm's hand and dragged him out of the chair he was sitting in.

“Sure, let's...Wow, you look beautiful.” Harm took a real look at her for the first time that night.

“Thank you.” Mac smiled. “I wanted to dress up for you.”

“I really appreciate it.” Harm bent down and kissed her.

“Now, let's get out of here.” Mac said when the kiss ended. She released Harm and went to kiss her son. Harm followed her, he kissed Matthews head, then he watched the sleeping child for a moment.

Mac took his hand and dragged him towards the door. “Come on daddy, let's go.”

Harm took one last look at his son before the door closed behind them, then he reluctantly followed Mac out of the building.

“Why are you so calm?” He took her hand and guided her to his car.

“Because our son is in good hands, he'll be fine.” She stopped when they reached the car, turned and put her hands around his neck. “And because I'm looking forward to be out of that apartment for a few hours, to spend time with you.” She kissed him.

Harm deepened the kiss, then he released her. “I love you.”

Mac smiled. “I love you too.”

Harm kissed her again, the he released her and opened the car door. “Let's get some dinner.”

“That sounds good, I'm starving.” Mac got in to the car.

Later that night

It had been a wonderful night; Harm had taken Mac to a restaurant where they had a dance floor.
They had enjoyed a nice dinner, then they had spent the rest of the night dancing, before it was time to get back to the baby.

“I had a wonderful time tonight Harm.” Mac said as they hand in hand walked to their car.

“I'm glad.” Harm stopped and pulled her in to his arms.

“And thank you for suppressing the need to call your mother.” Mac laughed and kissed him.

“How did you know that I was thinking about it?” Harm felt that he had been very successful in hiding the fact that he wanted to call and check up on his son.

“I just knew...you are a little overprotective.” Mac kissed him again. “But it's one of the things I love the most about you.”

“I love you too.” Harm kissed her once more, before he released her and lead her to their car. “Let's go home to our son.”

Later that night

Everything had gone well with Matthew, he had been an angel while his parents were gone.

Mac was putting Matthew down after feeding him, making sure he was asleep before she joined Harm in bed.

“Have you noticed something different about me today?” Mac said after she had cuddled into Harm's arms.

Harm hesitated, he tried to think about what it could be. “No...I can't say that I have.”

Mac put her hands on his chest. “Nothing different?”

Harm studied her intensely, then he shook his head. “No, I really can't find anything different about you.”

Mac smiled and waved a hand in front of his eyes. “Look more closely.”

Harm grabbed her hand and kissed it. “Seriously Mac, I've studied you closely all night. I have no idea what's diff...” He took a closer look at her hand. “The ring.”

Mac smiled. “I figured it was time.”

Harm studied her hand. “Does this mean that you'll marry me?”

“Yes I will.” Mac put her forehead against his. “I love you.”

Harm's face cracked in to a smile. “I love you too.” Then he kissed her.
