Harm’s Apartment – Sunday Morning

“You’re doing it again.” Mac’s observation came in the midst of Harm trying to decipher the rules of a game he had discovered online. He managed an unintelligible grunt as he peered anxiously at the screen on his laptop.

“Doing what?” Mattie – just entering Harm’s apartment - looked over at Mac as she lay sprawled on Harm’s sofa, dressed casually in sweats with USMC in white lettering up one leg. Mac grinned at the teenager and pointed a finger in Harm’s direction.

“Trying to decipher some game he found on the net yesterday. He’s been obsessing about it. We were meant to be working out this morning,” Mac grouched good-naturedly.

“It’s hardly an obsession, Mac,” Harm looked up then, glancing from Mac to Mattie, and back again to the computer screen, drawn like a moth to a flame.

“Oh, no?” Mac snorted in amused frustration. “It’s even called ‘Obsession’! You can walk away any time?”

“Any time!” Harm answered, his nose practically pressed up against the screen now.

“Really?” Mac asked, getting to her feet.

“Really,” Harm echoed, not moving his eyes from the screen. Mattie stared in amazement at the object Mac retrieved from her pocket. With a sign from the older woman Mattie managed to stifle the squeal of delight she had been about to let loose.

“Honestly?” Mac tried again, and had a hard time stopping herself from laughing too, when Harm answered automatically.

“Honestly.” Still glued to the screen, Harm didn’t see Mac come up behind him, nor Mattie make a discreet exit with a kiss blown in their direction.

“Even now?” Mac lowered her voice, and something in her tone did get through to Harm’s sixth sense so that he turned in his seat and caught sight of the object in her hand.

A white stick.

With two blue lines.

The Rules of Obsession had changed, forever.

The End

A / N : I typed in Rules of Obsession and found hits on a movie, and a board game from the 70’s, called Obsession. Does anyone remember it / have the game? It looks something like Backgammon, but seems a lot more complicated! I just wanted to look for ideas for the Challenge, and this is what I came up with. I’m back home now for my daughter’s schooling and her social life has taken over my writing time yet again, so now I’m restructuring my day to include time – even if it means getting up before sunrise! (I’m a much better morning person than I am a night owl!)
